Reflection... 7/9/15Initially while doing the line art activity I felt a little silly; simple because I am not, nor ever was I good at Art. My self-consciousness held me back from truly expressing how I visualized the Hayden’s Surprise Symphony classical music piece and expressing my visuals on paper. However, I noticed that as time went on and when the music played again and we were given the opportunity to continue our work my self-esteem boosted. I started to draw bolder and more defined lines, I even had an experience where I was visualizing the music differently than I had before causing me to be more free and expressive with the oil pastels and paint. Also, after glimpsing a classmate’s artwork and how wonderful and unique it looked, I was influenced to be more comfortable and more self-expressive and let my thoughts come out on the watercolor paper.

Activity Idea: |
An activity that I would do with my kindergarteners is that in an effort to support a diverse classroom, each day I would have the students do a similar drawing and painting activity to different genres of music. One activity would require the children to listen to a current pop music selection and then have them follow the same instructions. However this time, I would not limit the children to just drawing lines, but I would encourage my students to draw any shapes or figure that they visualized while listening to the music. Similar to the lines and classical music activity, I would also have the children use watercolor paint and paint over the drawing they just did. This would encourage my young students to think beyond their level of creativity that they did for the original lines activity.
